PSI Working Group on Equality and Inclusive Practice (EQuIP)

The proposed aim of the Equality and Inclusive Practice Working Group is to develop and implement a strategy for embedding the Society’s Policy on Equality and Inclusive Practice into the profession of psychology in Ireland.

The proposed terms of reference of the EQuIP Working Group are:

  • To develop a strategy for embedding the PSI Policy on Equality and Inclusive Practice into psychology education, training, practice and research in Ireland, and to oversee the implementation of this strategy

  • To engage in capacity-building work with the various divisions and SIGs within PSI to support them in implementing the Policy on Equality and Inclusive Practice

  • To adopt a strategy model known as “the 4 P’s” (public profile, policies, professional development and programmes) as a means of accomplishing the aim

  • To evaluate the implementation of the strategy after a determined period of time (i.e.,November 2010).

The intended outcomes of the EQuIP Working Group are:

  • That the culture of Irish psychology is inclusive and embracing of diversity (as defined in PSI’s Policy on Equality and Inclusive Practice)

  • That psychologists are competent to meet the needs of diverse groups

  • That both under- and post-graduate students are educated about diversity and equalityissues, including the PSI Policy on Equality and Inclusive Practice

  • That post-graduate training programmes meet accreditation standards and producepractitioners competent to work effectively with individuals and families from diversegroups

  • That research in Ireland in psychology addresses equality and diversity both in researchthemes and the conduct of research
