This workshop aims to introduce researchers to the key concepts, skills, methodological tools and challenges of conducting participatory action research. The workshop with be of interest to health professionals and researchers interested in activist research that works in collaboration with rather than research on people. A mix of presentation, case examples and hands-on practical exercises will explore the key stages of PAR from problem definition to dissemination of findings. The limits of PAR and some barriers to using this approach will also be explored.

This workshop will be be facilitated by Dr. Angela Veale (School of Applied Psychology, University College Cork). Angela's research utilises child-centred methods and a participatory action research framework to explore the position of children, adolescents and their families within complex political and cultural milieu. Drawing on theoretical perspectives from developmental psychology, cultural and critical psychology, Angela's research explores processes of participation, agency and collective resiliency.
 
 
After participating in this workshop participants will:

 
• Understand the conceptual underpinnings of user centered design and rapid prototyping
• Be able to quickly evaluate design features of mobile apps through paper prototypes
