Using the WISC-V

Expected Learning Outcomes:
1. Familiarity with WISC-V
2. Awareness of differences from WISC-IV
3. Familiarity with WISC V scorer (computer scorer provided during course)
4. Awareness of limitations of WISC V and it’s interpretation

Teaching / delivery methods: 

Lecturing, demonstration, and practice in administration

Assessment methods: 
Accurate completion of WISC V scoring sheets
Accurate completion of WISC V computer scorer

Qualifications and prior experience necessary: Previous use of WISC-IV

Relevant recent developments in the area being covered by the course:

1. Development of UK version of WISC-V
2. Changes in administration and structure from WISC-IV
3. alignment of WISC V with CHC intelligence theory

10am

  • Introduction to WISC V and rationale for development
  • WISC V structure and how it fits with CHC intelligence theory
  • Broad introduction to changes in WISC V, compared to WISC IV


11am (coffee break)

  • New subtests in WISC V – (show videos of test administration; practice at test items)
  • Go through changes to old subtests (e.g. changes in basal/floor rules etc.)


12:30p – 1:15pm (lunch)

  • Psychometrics of WISC V – normative data/ reliability/validity
  • Introduction to WISC V computer scorer (practice with its use)


2:30pm (coffee break)

  • Interpretation of test scores (e.g. FSIQ v VCI etc.) and use of computer scorer
  • Practice using scorer on case study

4pm finish

  • Participants given materials and WISC V resources received on the day
