The Psychological Society of Ireland

The Psychological Society of Ireland,
Floor 2, Grantham House,
Grantham Street, Dublin 8, D08 W8HD.

The Special Interest Group for Media, Art and Cyberpsychology (SIGMAC) began within PSI to explore and promote research, teaching, evidence-based practice and professional development in relation to Media Psychology, Psychology of Art and Cyberpsychology.

This Special Interest Group for Media, Art and Cyberpsychology (SIGMAC) is concerned with the scientific exploration of the way humans interact with technology, mass media communication, art and fiction. It encompasses all psychological phenomena that are associated with or affected by emerging art, media and technology. It also recognises the profoundly influential bidirectional nature of human interaction with these constructs and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to exploring this interaction.

Through the organisation of talks, workshops and symposia SIGMAC provides members with a forum for the exploration of and collaboration on the above stated issues. The SIG also aims to disseminate accurate and evidence based information relating to the areas of interest.

Aims and Objectives

The SIGMAC offers members new areas to engage with and explore, it offers the society a centre for a new area of expertise to support pre-existing areas e.g. the use of technology in applied areas. It also actively establishes links with related SIGs and groups within and outside the society. These tasks, aims and objectives are deeply rooted in  the PSI’s strategic goals.

Membership and membership criteria

SIGMAC is open to any member/subscriber of the Society using the basic PSI membership categories: Registered/Graduate Member and Student Subscriber. Affiliate members/subscribers are also encouraged to join, in recognition of the need for multidisciplinary perspectives.
