In 2016 the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and the Directors of Studies in Guidance Counselling (a group convened by the National Centre for Guidance in Education, NCGE) along with the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC) and the Adult Educational Guidance Association of Ireland (AEGAI) signed a renewed agreement that would allow for the continued certification of psychometric test use by guidance counsellors by the PSI.
To qualify for PSI certification of psychometric test use, individual guidance counsellors are required to submit an application form together with an authenticated copy of their graduation certificate or an authenticated copy of their course exam transcript or a signed letter from the course Director confirming that they have successfully completed one of the approved courses.
Applicants must also be a member of a professional body and must agree to abide by the PSI guidelines of best practice for psychometric testing.

For guidance counsellors who meet the criteria, a Certificate of Psychometric Test Use will be issued to them which is valid for 4 years.
To apply, the fee for the four year certificate is €100.
Further, Guidance Counsellors will appear on the ‘PSI Register of Psychometric Test Use: Guidance Counsellors’ operated by the PSI.
PSI holds the final determination on eligibility for membership of the Register and for the issuing of certificates of psychometric test use for guidance counsellors.
