Permanent Full Time Role - Psychologist, Principal Manager

Health Service executive (HSE) West and North West are inviting applications for the role Psychologist, Principal Manager available based in Galway City.

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity for a Psychologist, Principal manager to lead and manage Psychology services across Primary Care (Adult and Child), Mental Health (Adult and Child), and Disability (Child and Adult) and Galway University Hospitals ensuring integrated, high-quality psychological care aligned with national HSE policies, professional standards, and local population needs.

The role provides operational and clinical governance of psychology services in Primary Care Child, for Networks 4,5,6,7,8; in Primary Care Adult (Galway, City-East); in CAMHS Galway/Mayo/Roscommon (Inpatients, MHID, CAMHS Connect, Community, Eating Disorders); in Adult Mental Health GR 1-6, Inpatients (Galway and Roscommon), Rehab & Recovery, MHID, Perinatal, POLL, and Homeless teams in Galway/Roscommon; in Galway University Hospitals (11 departments) and in the community hubs for Cardiac Rehabilitation and Neuro-Rehabilitation in Galway/Roscommon. The role provides clinical governance for CDNT Networks, 4,6,7,8,9. The service provides governance input and accommodates the trainee psychology programme for UG/UL.

• Sufficient professional knowledge and evidence-based practice to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role to a high standard
• An excellent awareness of current professional issues in the relevant care group area and the wider health services
• Excellent professional knowledge of evidence-based practice, to the level required to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role
• An ability to apply professional knowledge to best practice and to the development of cost-effective services
• A clear understanding of professional ethics
• A knowledge of research methods
• A willingness to develop IT skills relevant to the role

• Excellent communication skills, to the level required to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role

• Excellence in leadership skills; including the strategic development of services and proven success in project management of quality initiatives

• The ability to effectively evaluate information and make appropriate decisions in the best interests of service users
• Effective clinical supervision skills and line management skills; including excellent interpersonal communication and professional behaviour, effective conflict resolution skills and commitment to supporting continuing professional development in the interests of the service user

Commitment to Providing a Quality Service

• Competence in the provision of clinical governance over professional psychology services, to an excellent standard, within multi-disciplinary settings
• An excellent understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks and the ensuing responsibilities of the role, as well as a capacity to deliver on these responsibilities
• A characteristic ability to empathise with and treat others with dignity and respect in challenging circumstances
• A high level of commitment to a public service role

Post-specific requirements for the role:

• Demonstrate the depth and breadth of your experience of project work as relevant to the role both on a local and/or national level,
• Demonstrate the depth and breadth of your experience of managing people and leading change within your team.
• Demonstrate your experience in working in MHC Approved Centres and Residences for service users including working with marginalised communities.
• Demonstrate the depth and breadth of your experience of audits and research in practice.
